Daria's story: I found myself in a new profession thanks to the NGO Girls

A year ago, Daria used to work in a cozy children's center in Sloviansk, helping children with disabilities. But the war changed her life forever and forced her to leave her hometown. Moving to Kyiv was a big challenge for Daria, but she found a new path there.

"One morning, while scrolling my Facebook news feed, I came across an announcement about a retraining program from the NGO Girls. I was immediately interested in the opportunity to learn a new profession and develop in new directions," she said.

The woman has always loved working with people, and manicuring has been her little hobby since she was a teenager. So Daria contacted the project's career counselor, got acquainted with all the program details, and chose a training studio for retraining. When choosing an educational institution, the woman paid attention to the experience of the teachers, student feedback, and tuition fees. It was important to her that the materials and equipment were up-to-date.

"The training was very intense, but incredibly interesting. I especially liked the practical classes where we worked on different designs and techniques. It was not easy to combine work, study, and family care, but the support of my family and teachers helped me move forward," she said.

Now Daria is completing the course and is already making plans for the future. She dreams of opening her own space for clients. Realizing the high competition in the beauty industry, she has set the goal of constantly improving and offering quality services to her clients.

“I am very grateful to the NGO Girls for this opportunity. I not only mastered a new profession, but I also found new friends and discovered new horizons.” The woman is sure that changes are not scary if you have support.

"I want to tell all women who are in a difficult situation: don't be afraid of change and look for new opportunities. Investing in yourself is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family," Daria concludes.

The retraining was possible within the project "Empowering Women in Ukraine through Employment Reskilling" implemented by the NGO Girls with the support of Solidaritätsdienst International e.V. (SODI).
