Help that Recovers Strength: Tetiana's Story

Tetiana had been suffering psychological abuse from her mother-in-law, including humiliation, accusations, control, and constant pressure, for three years. That led to the woman's deteriorated mental health, lowered self-esteem, and increased anxiety. During the occupation, Tetiana also experienced gender-based violence from the occupiers and psychological pressure at work. After the trauma she had experienced, she lost her job and was left without a stable income.

When Tetiana turned to the NGO Girls, she and her son were in a difficult situation and needed legal, psychological, and financial support. During the first meeting, the organization's case manager assessed the family's needs. Tetiana received psychological support aimed at overcoming the effects of trauma and legal advice on protecting her rights and opportunities to receive social assistance. The NGO Girls provided the family with voucher assistance in the form of an electronic certificate, which allowed Tetiana to purchase food, hygiene products, and other necessary items. The woman was also able to buy glasses for her child thanks to this financial support. Later, with the help of the case manager, Tetiana found a job at a local store close to home.

The provided support helped improve the family's financial situation, reduce Tetiana's anxiety, and restore her confidence in her own abilities. She began to provide for her family on her own, felt stability and motivation for further development. The support provided by the case manager and specialists from the NGO Girls was an important step toward restoring emotional balance, independence, and building a safe life for the woman and her child.

The assistance is provided within the project "Provision of protection to vulnerable internally displaced, returnee and host communities women and families in North and East Ukraine" implemented by the NGO Girls with the financial support of the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts.
