The NGO Girls is implementing the project "Giving Voice to the Ukrainian Children Returned from Forced Deportations to Russia".
As part of the project, the NGO Girls supports the creation of the film “The Blue Sweater with a Yellow Hole”, directed by Tetiana Khodakivska. To create this film, the team made expeditions to Kharkiv and Kherson oblasts and conducted 50 interviews with children and their parents or guardians. They collected the information about the conditions in the re-education camps and the methods used by Russia to destroy children's Ukrainian identity. The interviews were complemented by art sessions during which children reflected on their experiences in the camps.
The NGO Girls provides psychological support to the film crew and children, as well as addresses their humanitarian and educational needs.
In addition, the project, together with Tetiana Khodakivska, developed a practical toolkit called “Hearing Them Out: a Trauma-Sensitive Approach to Interviewing Children and More”. It provides practical advice for communicating with children who have experienced war-related trauma for anyone researching this issue, e.g., journalists, activists, prosecutors and lawyers.
The project "Giving Voice to the Ukrainian Children Returned from Forced Deportations to Russia" is implemented with the support of Terres des hommes.
